Sheryl L. Sauer

Sheryl’s enthusiasm to paint nature’s beauty began at age 11 when she witnessed the most incredible sunset she had ever seen while traveling to Washington State from her home in Delaware. Then in 1992 after having an epiphany while traveling through New Mexico, she was lead to return to college to obtain an art degree. However, it wasn’t until she moved to Southern California in 1997 and began taking watercolor classes from some of Laguna Beach’s finest watercolorists, that painting and art became a significant part of every day.

“By undertaking the task of learning everything I could about watercolors, I gained a great appreciation for the disciplines involved in working with any medium,” Sheryl noted. In the early years, Sheryl loved painting tropical flowers and fish, seascapes with sunsets, still life, doors – just about anything. Traveling became a significant part of Sheryl’s evolvement. She took workshops in France, Mexico, Taos, New Mexico, Sedona, and numerous cities in California. While participating in workshops, Sheryl expanded her scope and began painting en Plein Air.

After spending seven years painting realism in watercolors, Sheryl began painting in acrylics and expressing herself through abstraction. She remembers “My first watercolor instructor told me that I seemed to enjoy the elements of design more than the tedious strokes of fine art. After four years she’s having more fun than ever expressing what comes from the heart than what is seen with the eyes.

Sheryl maintains membership in several local art associations and was on the Board and president of the Niguel Art Association for a number of years. In addition to being a partner at the Cove Gallery, Sheryl’s artwork is on display during the summer at the prestigious, juried Art-A-Fair in the Laguna Beach Canyon, and she participates in several art exhibitions during the year. Sheryl is honored to have her works in homes around the country and Canada, as well as in a number of corporate offices.
